Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park at Mexico, NY

Our first family camping trip

I'm not sure what we've been waiting for but we finally took our first family camping trip at Yogi Bear's Park at Mexico, NY campground this past weekend.  With check in being at 3pm we were able to get in our packing on Friday morning and took 104 pretty much all the way there.  We did take two vehicles, with 4 kids and all the supplies it worked out perfectly.  If we were experienced campers too we would have brought more stuff that we didn't even think of but we still survived!  We had a cabin that slept 6, 2 bunks in one room and then a double bed in the front room where the mini fridge, coffee maker and microwave were.  We had a nice little front porch and weren't far from the shared bathrooms around the corner.  I would definitely recommend trying to get a campsite or cabin that's right on the river since that's where my boys wanted to play most of the time.  There was a nice activity guide with times to meet up for gaga ball, singing with Yogi Bear and Boo Boo, crafts, water wars and more!  The ranger store was huge and had just about everything you could imagine in there including an arcade and ice-cream shop!  We didn't think to bring tubes but they sold them there and my 3 oldest boys experienced rafting in the river and loved it.  It was very shallow so I felt safe having them in there by themselves.  There was a nice area that included a playground, huge bounce pillow, mini golf, basketball and pool that my boys all tried out.  It didn't feel overly crowded at each activity either but the boys were able to play with some kids there.  It did rain a little bit one morning but the boys were still able to catch some crawfish in the river.  We found a local pizza shop not to far up the street into town that we visited for lunch.  I think my 3 littlest boys went on the bounce obstacle pillow at least 50 times when we were there.  I was glad I brought some extra coloring materials and playdough to occupy them at our cabin picnic table while my husband cooked us dinner.  We were also very thankful for the electricity in the cabins and fans for the extremely hot night!!  Check out time on Sunday is at 10am but you can stay to do activities until 1pm.  I just had to buy my boys matching shirts at the store and loved that they got their picture taken on our way out with Yogi Bear and Boo Boo!!

Overall it was a great experience to bring our boys to.  Small enough where we didn't feel like they would get lost but big enough to have enough to do!  We realized we are very unexperienced campers and learned how lucky we are to have air condition in our home!
