Did you know there is a secret room in the back of Don's Original Restaurant and Pub in Penfield?? OK, it's not really a secret room but there are 3 bonus seating options in the back that are not fully obvious from the front door. When my family entered the pub at 2055 Fairport Nine Mile Point Rd in Penfield we saw a large counter, several tables and booths, and a giant menu board to order from. This room would be a great place to eat when you are looking for a quick meal after a little league baseball game. All food options are on the board right above the counter. Your order comes out on a tray a few minutes later for a quick in and out meal.

BUT, if you go through the *not so* secret door, you enter the pub area. It is beautifully decorated with black and white photos of famous and local athletes, dancers, architecture, and even a guy in a cage  who looked like he was collecting golf balls. The photos gave us a lot to look at and sparked great dinner conversation.

Patrons can sit at the bar, at tables and booths in the back, or even under a tent on the heated patio. My kids LOVED sitting in the booth because they had access to SEVEN TVs all on different channels. They loved watching the funny videos while we waited for our food. We could hear laugher from other kids around the room who were also enjoying the videos. With so many seating options, Don's in Penfield is the perfect place to celebrate National Burger Day on Saturday, May 28, 2022.

The menu in the back is more extensive than the front board, offering appetizers, drinks, salad, and dessert. We started with fried pickles which were delicious and a big enough portion for my family of 6 to get several helpings of.

Our server was AMAZING! Not only was she friendly and attentive, but she bussed the table every time she came to check on us. I know not everyone has our *big family problems* but I'm sure you can relate to the fact that sometimes, table space fills up so quickly, you have to part the Red Sea to make a spot for your entree plate. At Don's the servers clear the table as they go, taking dirty plates and napkins away each time.

My kids had a hard time choosing between all the yummy kids' meal choices and were happy with their decisions to order burgers and mac and cheese. My husband and I both ordered the Patriot Burger and were able to fully customize it to our preferences, including the option to substitute a turkey or garden burger instead of ground round. I ordered mine low carb on a bed of lettuce topped with bacon, tomato, several cheeses, and fried eggs. We had a bunch of side choices too. I got the most delicious French Onion Soup I've ever had! If Kate's French Onion soup is this good, I'm definitely going back on a Friday to try her Lobster Bisque.

The kids' meals arrived first (Don's knows what they are doing for happy dining!) and it was so funny to see my sons' reactions to how big their burgers were. Filled to the max with their toppings of choice, including crisp thick cut pickles (can you tell we are a pickle-loving family?!?) My boys did a couple mouth stretches and dug in.

My daughter loved her creamy mac and cheese but wished her meal included a side. Pro tip for the future: spring for an extra side so your little one doesn't steal all her siblings' French Fries. Everyone enjoyed their kid sized frozen custard and sprinkles to round out the meal.

In honor of National Burger Day on May 28, Don's Original Restaurant and Pub in Penfield is offering two special burgers in addition to their already awesome menu. If burgers aren't your thing, there are a ton of other options from soup and salad to wings to a pot roast sandwich.
