Maker Faire Rochester Returns! New Location at RIT

By Kelly Zaryk, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Eastside of Rochester October 30, 2024

Maker Faire Rochester arrives at RIT’s Gordon Field House on Saturday, November 16th, celebrating 11 years of bringing creativity to the Rochester community!

Visitors can play in a bubble playground, check out locally made video games and board games, participate in a cosplay contest, enjoy live music, see the latest in 3-D printing technology, and much more! More than 90 Makers will come together at Maker Faire Rochester, to share their skills, hobbies, and passion. Free parking will be available this year for all attendees, volunteers, and makers.

“We’re excited to bring Maker Faire to a new, exciting location this year!” said Pat Rapp, event coordinator. “Rochester Institute of Technology’s Gordon Field House is the perfect setting for our ‘brand’ of ingenuity, where kids and adults can explore everything from robotics to painting to music and dance. This event not only highlights the incredible talent within our community, but also fosters creativity and innovation for our visitors in a family-friendly atmosphere.”

Rochester is recognized as a global leader in the maker movement. Rochester’s Faire is supported by the New York State Association for Computers and Technologies in Education (NYSCATE.org) and includes the Friday Student STEAM Fest. This is an opportunity for students in grades 3-8 to come in a day early for hands-on learning and fun with their classes, teachers, and chaperones. The Student STEAM Fest takes place on Friday, November 18th, and is open to Makers who want to share their knowledge and skills with school students. The Student STEAM Fest is ONLY open to school groups and accepted Makers.

Saturday’s Maker Faire is open to the public from 9 am to 5 pm.

This celebration of the DIY spirit is a community-driven festival with featured attractions, immersive exhibits, live demonstrations, and performances showcasing the intersection of science, technology, the arts, and crafting. Recognition for cosplay creativity will be hosted by Flower City Comiccon on Saturday, so be sure to attend as a favorite character!

First-time visitors to the Faire will be inspired by the creativity and ingenuity of the Maker Movement --  Whether you’re a seasoned maker, a curious beginner, or just looking for a fun family outing, Maker Faire Rochester is the perfect destination. Those who have already been to Maker Faire will be delighted to see both familiar and new Makers. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with fellow creators, discover new interests, and be inspired!

Since its debut in 2014, the Maker Faire Rochester has been a consistently anticipated festival for the community. Many attendees travel from throughout New York State to see the spectacles and inspiration found only at an event of this kind. We hope to see you there!
