Seriously — how am I supposed to say no when they want to eat something so healthy by the handful? Luckily, berry season is here, and farmers markets and local produce stands make it much easier (and more affordable) to stock up. Even better, many local farms let you pick your own berries for a reduced price. It’s not just a great deal — it’s a fun family outing too.
If you’re new to U-Pick, here’s what to expect in our area:
- Strawberries usually kick off the season in June.
- By July, you’ll find cherries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries.
- Come August and September, it’s time for apples, grapes, and stone fruits like peaches and plums.
Harvest dates vary a little year to year depending on weather, so always double-check with the farm before heading out. Pro tip: produce is always cheapest (and freshest) when it’s in season and grown locally. And picking your own is a wonderful way to support our local farmers while making memories with your kids.
